Before Coursera, Ng led AI research efforts at Stanford and later at Google and Baidu. He has remained a prominent public voice on artificial intelligence education and workforce skills. Coursera grew into the largest university-partnered MOOC platform and later added degree programs and professional certificates.
Ng’s decision to place high-demand technical courses on an open platform helped normalize the idea that top research universities would distribute teaching content freely or at low cost online.
