A Stanford professor specializing in machine learning and probabilistic models, she and Andrew Ng launched Coursera in 2012 as a platform for universities to offer free or low-cost online courses at scale.

Coursera partnered with dozens of universities within its first years and became the largest of the early MOOC platforms by number of partners and enrollments. Koller left Coursera in 2016 to pursue work in computational biology and drug discovery. She is a MacArthur Fellow.

Koller helped establish the dominant early model for university-partnered MOOC platforms and demonstrated that elite institutions would place courses on a commercial online platform.
