How it works

How the Degree Finder works

You do not need to know which school you want yet. Tell the finder what you want from a degree and it does the comparing for you, across every field of study we track.

  1. You answer a few questions

The degree level you want, online or campus, where you live, and the work you picture after graduation.

  2. We read the programs

The finder keeps schools at your level and format, then matches each one's published figures against your answers.

  3. You get your matches

Every match names the schools enrolling now, the careers the field leads to, and the figures that order them.

What we look at

What the Degree Finder looks at

Your degree level

Certificate, associate, bachelor's, or master's. Your level decides which careers we treat as within reach.

Online or on campus

Fully online, on campus, or either. The finder keeps schools in the format you choose.

What you want to do

The work you picture after you graduate, matched against the careers each field of study actually leads to.

What you pay

Net price, completion rate, and earnings after ten years, the same published figures on every ranking.

Find your fit

Which degree fits your goal?

Move up in your current field

A certificate or associate degree adds a credential without four years. See the high-paying associate degree jobs to check what the field pays.

Switch careers

A bachelor's is the common entry point for a new field. Start from the best online colleges, then narrow by subject.

Go further in a profession

A master's opens licensure and leadership roles. Compare online master's programs by cost and outcomes.

Finish a degree you started

Transfer credits and short terms cut the time. Run the degree completion calculator to see how many credits carry over.

Questions

Degree Finder FAQ

How long does it take?

About a minute. You answer a few quick questions and see matches in the same visit. No account, no email required to see results.

Does it cost anything?

No. The finder and every calculator on the site are free. Schools in the sponsored section may pay us when you request information, which never changes which schools we show or how they rank.

Will you sell my information?

We do not sell your information. If you choose to request information from a school, that school receives what you submitted so it can follow up. You can use the finder without giving any contact details.

How are matches chosen?

Your answers filter schools by degree level and format, then order them by the published figure you care about: completion rate, net price, or earnings. Sponsored schools are labeled and never reorder the unsponsored list.
