Paul LeBlanc
Paul LeBlanc served as president of Southern New Hampshire University for more than two decades and is widely credited with transforming it from a small regional college into one of the largest nonprofit online universities in the United States.
- Role
- president of Southern New Hampshire University
Under his leadership SNHU expanded online programs aggressively, lowered barriers for adult and transfer students, and grew enrollment from a few thousand to well over 100,000, the large majority online. The university developed competency-based options (including College for America) alongside traditional credit-hour online degrees and invested heavily in student support and marketing. LeBlanc has been a prominent public voice for expanding access through online and alternative models.
He announced plans to step down in 2023–2024 after roughly 20 years in the role. His tenure is frequently compared with the growth trajectories of Western Governors University and other large online nonprofits.
LeBlanc showed that an existing traditional nonprofit college could reinvent itself as a national online provider at scale while remaining regionally accredited and nonprofit.
